Bakersville: Animated Gingerbread Village Community Events

Come and get your holiday spirit started with a visit to the Bakersville Animated Gingerbread Village  The village opens Saturday, December 1st, and runs through to Wednesday, January 2nd. This is the 23rd year for this community project that is located in the Kent Farndale Gallery within the Scugog Public Memorial Library. Admission is free to this spectacular indoor village made with fresh gingerbread creations supplied by the community, complete with miniature villagers, moving snowboarders, skaters and a train. The event is open during regular operating library hours and is located at 231 Water Street in Port Perry. Make sure you and your family visit this magical village during the Christmas season-you don’t want to miss it!

New Year's Levee & Honour Roll Presentations Community Events

12:30 PM| 181 Perry Street, Port Perry, ON L9L 1A7

Please join Mayor & Members of Council as they celebrate the New Year. The New Year's Levee will be a family event with complimentary skating followed by presentations of the Mayor's Honour Roll.

  • Complimentary public skating from 12:30 to 1:50 pm at the Scugog Arena (1655 Reach St., Port Perry)
  • Honour Roll presentation at 2 pm in the Scugog Community Recreation Centre (1655 Reach St., Port Perry)

Light refreshments will be available at the celebration.

People who are ages 55 to 74 and have smoked cigarettes daily for at least 20 years (not necessarily consecutive) may be eligible for Cancer Care Ontario's Lung Cancer Screening Pilot for People at High Risk.

If you meet these criteria, please contact Lakeridge Health Oshawa at 905-576-8711 x4449 for information or to schedule a telephone assessment to determine your eligibility. Eligible participants will be offered screening using a low-dose CT scan of the chest along with smoking cessation services.

Uxbridge Gay/Straight Alliance Community Events

Uxbridge Gay/Straight Alliance will meet on Saturday, January 19, from 2-4 p.m. in the lower hall at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 59 Toronto Street South.  Guest speakers will be Rev. Erin Martin and her sister Kit, of St. James the Apostle Anglican Church in Sharon, Ontario.  They will speak about the “Safe Place” for LGBTQ youth and their friends which meets twice monthly at St. James.  Everyone is welcome.  Please use door on the south side of the church.

Sunday Speaker Series: Author Paul Arculus and the Nip 'N Tuck Railway Community Events

Join us at the Scugog Shores Museum Village for our first speaker of 2019.  Local author and historian Paul Arculus will speak on his newest book "Nip N' Tuck", detailing the history of the Port Whitby, Port Perry and Lindsay railway.  Paul is the president of the Lake Scugog Historical Society and the author of several books on local history.  The talk will take place in the Schoolhouse at the Scugog Shores Museum Village, 16210 Island Road, Port Perry, starting at 1 pm.  Admission is $5/person.

Triple Folk Feature at Greenbank January 26th Community Events

For it's mid-winter meeting on January 26, 2019, the Society will present a unique and original group of folk stars: The Mayhemingways, Rich Burnett and Minnie Heart, plus Mike T. Kerr.

Organizer Mogens Galberg says: “These acts offer a uniquely interesting and original approach to folk music, song writing and instrumentation. They all play many instruments, and will give us a show full of tasteful, grand and amazing folk tunes. I am really looking forward to this one!”
