Beloved Johann Sebastian BACH! An entire program of BACH, conducted by Guest Conductor, James Liu of Wuhan CHINA. Interpretations of Concerto for Violin no.1, BWV 1041 in A minor by our very own Concertmaster Etsuko KIMURA, and Concerto for Two Violins, BWV 1043 in D minor with Etsuko KIMURA. This Baroque Series program cloaks the audience with fluidity, elegance and mastery.

Walk to Remember Community Events

Bereaved Families of Ontario (BFO) is a non-profit organization whose primary mandate is to provide support services to families who have lost children.

The “Walk to Remember” is an annual major fundraising event for the BFO – Durham Region chapter, which is sponsored by businesses and families in the community. It’s a gathering of families and friends to commemorate their children in a supportive environment.

If you meet these criteria, please contact Lakeridge Health Oshawa at 905-576-8711 x4449 for information or to schedule a telephone assessment to determine your eligibility. Eligible participants will be offered screening using a low-dose CT scan of the chest along with smoking cessation services.

Sonny Landreth and Marcia Ball Community Events

Music by the Bay Live Presents Sonny Landreth and Marcia Ball at Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts in Port Perry

 

Southwest Louisiana-based virtuoso slide guitarist, songwriter, and singer Sonny Landreth is a musician's musician.  The noted slideman cut his musical teeth in The Red Hot Louisiana Band of zydeco king Clifton Chenier, and has since recorded and toured with artists ranging from John Mayall to John Hiatt.  Landreth has collaborated with the very top names in guitar over the years; Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Derek Trucks – the list goes on.

Marcia Ball is the 2018 Texas State Musician Of The Year and has won worldwide fame and countless fans for her ability to ignite a full-scale roadhouse rhythm and blues party every time she takes the stage.  Her rollicking Texas boogies, swampy New Orleans ballads and groove-laden Gulf Coast blues have made her a one-of-a-kind favorite with music lovers all over the world. With each new release, her reputation as a profoundly soulful singer, a boundlessly talented pianist and a courageous, inventive songwriter continues to grow.

Sunday Speaker Series: Author Angie Littlefield speaks on Tom Thomson Community Events

Angie will highlight her research for Tom Thomson’s Fine Kettle of Friends: Biography, History, Art & Food, as well as the research for her upcoming book on the women in Tom Thomson’s life. She’ll briefly deviate to Rody Kenny Courtice of Port Perry, a friend to the female artists Tom Thomson knew in his lifetime. There will be a visit as well to the life of Thomas Henry Oake Marten, who visited the Lake Scugog area with Tom Thomson. The focus of this talk will be on all the things people normally DO NOT KNOW about Canada’s most famous artist, Tom Thomson.  The talk will take place in the schoolhouse at the Scugog Shores Museum Village, 16210 Island Road, Port Perry, starting at 1:00 pm.  Admission is $5/person.  For more information on the author please go to www.angielittlefield.com.

World Famous Singer/Songwriter, Stephen Fearing, in Concert Community Events

Vancouver born Stephen Fearing was raised in Dublin, cut his musical teeth in Minneapolis and circled back to Vancouver in 1984. In the years since, he's been named as one of the finest songwriters in Canada and has built a national and international audience for his music, doing it old school through countless performances at intimate venues and on the concert stages of festivals and theatres across Canada, the US, the UK, and Europe. In 1996 he co-founded the supergroup Blackie & The Rodeo Kings with Colin Linden and Tom Wilson. He has released 10 solo albums and 9 with Blackie with a has mantle full of well deserved awards for his work.
