Feed your creative spirit by attending Energize! A Multi-arts Symposium on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 9:30 am to 5 pm in Port Perry.
Join other members of the arts and culture community to be inspired and supported in your arts journey. This event is for amateurs and professionals alike.
The full day program organized by Scugog Council for the Arts takes place at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre in Port Perry. Three morning speakers will offer insight into their own journeys in the art world and share creative strategies for those in attendance.
Morning speakers are educator, activist, award-winning literary artist and national poetry slam champion A. Gregory Frankson, local mixed media contemporary visionary artist Lynne McIlvride and visual artist, expressive arts therapist and arts educator Georgia Fullerton.
In the afternoon, participants will choose two discussion groups or hands-on workshops to enjoy a new arts experience. Greg Frankson and Georgia Fullerton will be joined by mixed media/collage artist Holly Dean, actor/writer Steve Hobbs who trained extensively in improvisation through Second City and drummer, performer and creative wellness educator Tanya Porter.
To close out the day, attendees will be captivated by the artistry of 2023 Juno-nominated Aysanabee, a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer songwriter who recently performed at the Junos. Currently based in Toronto, Aysanabee is Oji-Cree, Sucker Clan of the Sandy Lake First Nation.
Tickets for the day-long event are $50 and include inspirational speakers from various backgrounds in the arts, two one-hour workshops, all day refreshments, a catered lunch and concert by Aysanabee.

“Bird banding – A Research Tool for Understanding Bird Migration” with Brian Joyce, March 28 , @ 7:00pm at The Scugog Memorial Library
Established in 1995, the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory is one of the most successful migration monitoring stations in Canada. Brian Joyce will take us behind the scenes of this research station situated on a National Wildlife Area near Lake Ontario. Brian will explain how birds are captured, recorded and safely released. Learn how this globally significant birding area attracts an abundance of song birds, butterflies and Sawwhet owls every year.
Brian is the Co-founder of the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory who received his ecology degree from Carlton University.
