Egypt: Gift of the Nile Community Events

11:00 AM

Explore an ancient civilization that flourished for thousands of years.

The Nile River Valley of 5,000 years ago was the birthplace of a remarkable civilization. Protected from foreign invasion by vast deserts and sustained by fertile soil along the river, the ancient Egyptians developed from a simple agricultural community into a sophisticated society. Under a system of divine kingship, this Egyptian civilization lasted thousands of years and contributed strongly to the later cultures of the Mediterranean and Europe.

This travelling exhibit created by the Royal Ontario Museum will cover topics such as personal adornment, daily household life, architecture, education, religion and the Ancient Egyptian view of the afterlife.    The exhibit includes 9 display cases featuring original artifacts from the ROM's collection, 10 text panels, 17 hands-on artifacts, 4 activity stations and a video.

The exhibit will be on display March 7 to May 18, 2018 at the Scugog Shores Heritage Centre & Archives.  The exhibit will be closed March 16 and 23 and April 11-13.  Hours are Tuesday - Sunday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

ALL SHOOK UP, the Elvis-Inspired Musical Community Events

8:00 PM

ALL SHOOK UP! The story is all-new, the music is all Elvis!

ALL SHOOK UP runs April 18-29 at Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts.  Tickets at www.townhall1873.ca

About the show: ALL SHOOK UP is the music of the undisputed King of Rock n’ Roll, deftly mixed with a full-throttle Broadway book by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro. Song giants including “Jailhouse Rock”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, “All Shook Up” and the classic “Love Me Tender” are the rocket fuel that shoots this hilarious story to the heights of entertainment. With a story that offers a brilliant bow to the Bard (Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’), the setting is a classic Elvis movie world where a guitar-playing roustabout rides into nowheresville and things get more than a little…all shook up! Small Town USA/Canada is about to get rocked!

Opens Thursday, April 19th, 2018, at Town Hall 1873 at 302 Queen Street, Port Perry and runs for a total of 7 performances over two weekends: April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 at 8pm and two matinees April 21 and 28 at 2pm.  SCS suggests buying tickets early to avoid being disappointed as it is anticipated that some performances may sell out.

Tickets are $27 Adults, $20 Child/Student. A Group Rate for 8 or more is also available.  Now on sale at Town Hall 1873 www.townhall1873.ca 905-985-8181
