It’s hard being the only monster in a small town lake, not to mention the lake’s only caretaker! Monsters & Milfoil will entertain youngsters and share the history and importance of Lake Scugog through interactive fun and song. As a playwright, Drew has proudly been a part of what he refers to as the contemporary Native Literary Renascence. An author of more than 20 plays (resulting in almost a hundred productions), his popular plays such as TORONTO AT DREAMER’S ROCK, ONLY DRUNKS AND CHILDREN TELL THE TRUTH, THE BERLIN BLUES, and COTTAGERS AND INDIANS have left their mark on the Canadian theatre scene.

Before the show enjoy a tasting form one of Scugog’s most anticipated new shops The Port Cheese Co.!

Location:  Scugog Memorial Public Library 

If you don’t know why these two things go together, then join us to learn how the great mystery novelist’s life is revealed within the pages of her books. Her love of the Middle East and the life she lived with her famous archaeologist husband provided the basis for many of her greatest novels including Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and Murder in Mesopotamia. Learn about her life, travels, and the fabulous ancient sites whose mysteries she helped uncover.

About Dr. Amy Barron
Amy Barron received her PhD at the University of Toronto in the field of Mesopotamian history and archaeology. Her doctoral thesis is entitled “Late Assyrian Arms and Armour: Art versus Artifact”. She has excavated in the Middle East and elsewhere, and has travelled widely studying the archaeology of various remote parts of the world from Peru to China. She has also worked in the museum field for over twenty years and presently teaches Museum Studies at Fleming College.

You have three minutes to perform your SLAM poem, impress the judges and win big! Compete against other slammers for a chance at $200, $100, or tickets to a Theatre on the Ridge production. Also don’t judge a book by its cover and go on Blind Date with a Book. Some blind dates don’t work out but, in this case, you are in for a pleasant surprise.

Get an inside look at this unique underground house designed by Bill Lishman. Tour Paula Lishman’s studio, Geordie Lishman’s workshop, and their garden full of sculptures. All proceeds go to the Bill Lishman Memorial Project.
