Plays from the Past presented by Theatre on the Ridge Scugog Shores Museums

Enjoy an outdoor performance of "Plays from the Past: A Collection of Short One Act Victorian & Edwardian Plays" by Theatre on the Ridge.

 

Performances will be outdoors at Scugog Shores Museum Tuesday July 6th at 7:00 pm, Thursday July 8th at 7:00 pm, and Sunday July 11th at 3:00 pm.

 

This event will be outdoors at the Museum Village, please bring lawn chairs and/or blanket. COVID-19 rules apply.

Theatre on the Ridge looks back at the plays of the early 20th century and finds that comedy, tragedy, social commentary and entertainment abound in this mixed staged reading program.

 

The performance includes:

 

The Dear Departed by Stanley Houghton (1910)

A clever comedic dramatization of a famous De Maupassant story about a man who pretended he was dead in order to see what his family thought about him.

 

Mr. Sampson by Charles Lee (1911)

Two spinster sisters, Caroline and Catherine, live a peaceful life in Cornwall. However, that peace is disturbed when their new neighbour, Mr. Sampson makes a proposition.

 

The Twelve Pound Look by J. M. Barrie (1914)

“A woman of society, tired of her existence, almost gives it up when she learns from a workingwoman something of the joys of labour.”

 

Passion, Poison & Petrification by George Bernard Shaw (1905)

A witty spoof of popular Victorian melodramas, written by the preeminent playwright of the English speaking theatre in the early 20th century.

Drop in every Thursday for some extra exploration, included with general admission to the museum.

Programming changes weekly, check the Family Fun Thursday lineup or Scugog Shores Museum social media to see what each week holds! Seek & Find through the village, learn about uses and meanings of flowers and herbs, or play some pioneer games – what will you discover?

Seek & Find and Garden Days are open to drop in visitors.

*Pioneer Game Days include a special game session at 11:30 am with limited space available. Pre-registration recommended for Pioneer Game Day sessions by contacting the museum.*

Teams of 4 compete to win the pot!

Fun Trivia, questions are designed so all skill/knowledge levels can participate!

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Scugog Shores Museums

1:00 PM| Scugog Shores Museum Village and Archives, 16210 Island Road, Port Perry

This summer, Theatre on the Ridge brings a unique adaptation of C. S. Lewis’ beloved children’s classic, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to life.

 

With only a cast of two, and minimal set, props and costumes, the story of this beloved children’s classic is told through clever staging and engages the imaginations of audience of all ages. A heroic tale of love, faith, courage, giving, and the triumph of good over evil, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is a perfect production to introduce young audiences to the joy and magic of theatre. Directed by Theatre on the Ridge artistic director, Carey Nicholson, the cast of Frances Loiselle and Michael Williamson are familiar with creating magic on stage - audiences will remember them as Tinkerbell and Peter Pan from the Festival 2018 season. This production has been sponsored by Vos’ Independent.

 

Performances of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by Theatre on the Ridge will be outdoors at Scugog Shores Museum and include a self-guided tour.
