Scugog Arts Presents: 2019 Annual Juried Show Community Events

11:00 AM

Scugog Council for the Arts’ 2019 Annual Juried Show is approaching quickly! This year, our highly esteemed juror Kent Farndale will be assessing all forms of art in our open juried exhibit kicking off August 10th at the Scugog Arts Gallery, carrying on until August 31st. The gallery at Scugog Arts will be open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 4pm. Juried shows are a great opportunity for artists to showcase their art, win prize money, and possibly have their pieces sold. The Best in Show prize is $300, second place prize Is $200, Honorable Mention winners get $100, and finally the winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive a gift certificate!

Kent Farndale’s history of civic involvement began in the early 1970’s when she successfully campaigned to retain and restore Port Perry Town Hall into a theatre for live performance. She even sang there in the 1980’s as a member of the Scugog Choral Society.  Kent was instrumental in the creation of an art gallery when Scugog built a new library in 1982. After 10 years of organizing the gallery, the Scugog Memorial Library Board paid tribute to her, naming the gallery in her honour, as well as establishing the Kent Farndale Bursary for the Arts. Kent helped in the early days of the formation of the Scugog Council for the Arts and has long been an Advisor to the Board. We are lucky to have Kent here with us for this exhibition!

Don’t miss out on the wonderful pieces! Everyone is welcome!

Doyle Bramhall II Community Events

8:00 PM| 302 Queen Street

What is it about Doyle Bramhall II, and why does everybody want to work with him? Since 2000, the uniquely gifted guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer has been practically joined to Eric Clapton’s hip as both an onstage and studio collaborator. In addition to Slowhand, other music greats have sought Bramhall’s distinctive talents: Roger Waters, T-Bone Burnett, Elton John, Gregg Allman, Allen Toussaint, Sheryl Crow, Billy Preston, Dr. John, Michael McDonald, Erykah Badu, Questlove, Meshell Ndegeocello – as it’s often said, the list goes on and on.

At 18, he was tapped by Jimmie Vaughan to join the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and two years later, following the tragic death of Stevie Ray Vaughan, he and fellow Austin guitar ace Charlie Sexton teamed with SRV’s Double Trouble rhythm section, drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon, to form the band Arc Angels. The band released a strong self-titled debut album in 1992 but broke up before they could record a follow-up. Bramhall then signed with Geffen Records and embarked on a solo career, issuing a pair of albums – Doyle Bramhall II(1996, Geffen Records) and Jellycream(1999, RCA) – that won the hearts of music critics as well as a couple of music icons, Roger Waters and Eric Clapton, who would soon call upon his services.
